Task Overview
Your task is to create a documentary about the West Australian Gold rush. You will need to work as a group to identify how the Gold Rush impacted the Swan River Colony and you must identify significant figures that played a role in the Gold Rush.

- Identify the learning points for this task.
- Investigate what the West Australian Gold Rush was.
- Identify the impact it had on the Swan River Colony.
- Identify key figures who were instrumental in the WA Gold Rush.
- Identify the impact it had on Chinese migration to Australia (extension).
- Record your information about the Gold Rush prior to starting your planning.
- Produce a high quality storyboard.
- Produce a documentary that reports on the information gathered.
- Engage the audience through using a variety of editing (music overlay, voice over, images, etc) and filming techniques (costumes, props, setting, etc).

Planning
Using a storyboard, plan out what your documentary might look like. Ensure to create a logical sequence to your documentary where the film tells a story. Include a lot of facts, photos and videos of your animal. You must be very descriptive when producing your plan as it will make the filming process a lot easier. Once you have completed your storyboard let a teacher check it, if it is then approved start filming your documentary.

- Action: what is happening in the scene.
- Sound/time: how long will the scene last for.
Filming
Begin filming your documentary once your planning is approved by a teacher. Watch the tutorials below about filming documentaries, prior to starting your filming. Think about the use of video, still images, camera angles, voice overs, props, etc. Watch this short tutorial on documentaries prior to commencing your filming.
Post Production (Editing)
Once you have completed your filming you must edit your documentary using iMovie. Below is a tutorial on how to you use iMovie on the iPads. Ensure to consider the following when editing your creation:
- Are you using any background music?
- Will you be conducting a voice over?
- What transistions will you use between scenes?
- Will you use any filters?
- Will you put any text over your videos?
